Our Story
Kreative Design began in 2010, not in a bustling storefront, but in the heart of our founder’s home—specifically, in her living room. What started as a small boutique quickly grew to take over the entire upstairs of the house. The space became a vibrant hub of creativity, with fashion shows, photo shoots, and a constant flow of energy. One of our first community events was a Mother's Day photo shoot contest in our backyard—a fun, whimsical project that captured the spirit of our boutique. Thanks to photographer Kelly MacEachern, we were able to bring that vision to life.
As the business grew, so did the space. By 2012, it became clear that we had outgrown our home. We knew it was time to take the leap into a professional storefront. That year, we signed a lease for a space at the back of the Sydney River Plaza. Though tucked away, the boutique quickly became a local favorite, offering fashion-forward pieces, unique accessories, and a commitment to supporting local and Canadian designers.
The next few years were a period of growth and transformation. In 2015, we expanded our offerings by introducing jewellery repair services, combining our founder’s extensive background in jewellery management with her passion for craftsmanship. We hired a talented goldsmith and apprentice, and soon, we were able to offer on-site repairs and custom jewellery designs. This move set us apart, establishing us as a trusted destination for high-quality jewellery work in Cape Breton.
By 2018, our reputation for exceptional service and craftsmanship had grown. When Alteen’s Jewellery, a longstanding local business, decided to close, we were honored to take on their warranty and repair work, continuing their legacy and offering our clients even more specialized services. With a growing team that included a goldsmith, silversmith, and fashion consultants, it was clear that we were outgrowing our space once again.
In 2019, after months of planning and renovation, we moved to the front of the Value Check Plaza, creating a larger and more inviting space to showcase our diverse range of products and services. Every detail of our new location was carefully designed to reflect our brand’s unique blend of creativity, quality, and comfort. We upcycled furniture and fixtures to create a welcoming atmosphere, blending sustainability with style. This move also marked the beginning of a new chapter, with a dedicated office space for our founder and a larger jewellery repair studio.
In the years since, we’ve continued to evolve. In 2021, after the pandemic had eased, we revived our tradition of local photoshoots, showcasing our fashion collections while celebrating the beauty of Cape Breton. We expanded our offerings to include men's clothing, complementing our women’s wear, and have received overwhelming support from our community.
As we move forward, we remain committed to offering an exceptional shopping experience that blends fashion, function, and personal service. We pride ourselves on the relationships we’ve built with our customers and the community, and we’re excited for the future of Kreative Design and our Jewellery repair custom designed jewellery offerings in our KDesign Studio.
