Most Entrepreneurs go into business with their eyes wide open. We know that carving out a living in Cape Breton has many challenges!
>The out migration of our young people and their families.
>An aging population.
>Higher unemployment rates.
>Lower combined household incomes- leaving less disposable income.
Yet we continue to dare to dream and venture into sole proprietorship, partnerships and corporations with the belief that our services/products will enhance our communities.
Small business is exploding and some would say it is Just In Time.
More big industries are relying on computers and less on people, leaving more people relying on local Small Business for employment. We are the Largest Employer Nationally and in our community, providing the most jobs to locals. Yet to employ local we need local support us.
November and December is know as the Holiday Shopping Season and could represent 20-40% annual sales for some businesses. This means Holiday Sales can make or break a small business; making it the most critical time of year. This is when we need you to “Think and Shop Local First!” We realize that you will not always find exactly what you need locally. However cross boarder shopping and leaving an average of $1000 per shopper in the US will not sustain our economy or benefit the local business that you rely on through out the rest of the year to support local charity and Non Profit organizations.
Consider the pros and cons of Cross Boarder Shopping. Not only on the local economy but also on your bottom line.
1 Bus Carrying 40 people spending $1000 each equals $40,000 a bus load. With a potential of over One Million Dollars leaving our Economy during the Holiday Shopping Season, what do you think the impact would be on Cape Breton?
When you factor in the costs, like the Bus Tour Fees, Meals, Extra Phone charges, Care Givers, lost work days, etc. are you really saving money?
Now is the perfect time to recognize the benefits of “Thinking and Shopping Local”!
It is a WIN WIN for us all!!
Thanks for taking the time to read and share.
Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand and melting like a snowflake.
